Our
yellow earths are an interesting trio leading from the reddish
orange
sienna to nearer green with mars yellow. Trusty Yellow ochre
bridges the
gap between the two quite nicely.
Though these colors
are by no means uncommon in the artist's palette, each is hand-picked
from a range of varying ochre shades. Additionally I rarely feel
they get the attention they deserve. Superb mixers, tinters, glazers,
somehow both moody and stabilizing when used straight, these
mud-verging yellows are a hallmark of painting throughout
history.
